Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson once shared his thoughts about advanced alien civilizations. He speculates that if such a race existed, a race so advanced that they could traverse through the cosmos, that human beings would be utterly trivial to them. He says that art (among other things) would simply be beneath their intelligence.
I respect Tyson to no end, and his entire lecture was mind opening and brilliant, but that's beside the point. If that is in fact the case, then I feel bad for the aliens. I truly pity them. I can't imagine living without being able to enjoy the beauty of art.
